The dangers of short shorts and sweaty thighs…..

As my fellow Aussie readers have probably noticed summer is now in it’s full glory: hot, humid, 30 degrees  plus.  For the last week, I have changed up my exercise and have been swimming laps instead of walking, but today I decided to head back on to dry land and do a long walk.

I chose to risk the snakes and walk at Narrabeen Lake as I could get the benefit of the views and the breeze off the water.  I put my MP3 player on, set the Nike + Sportsband to go and started on my way.  The first 6km were a breeze. The view is spectacular, the breeze was just right and Sydney was putting  on a magnificent day.  Then the chafing started, just a slight rubbing at first which necessitated an adjustment to the short leg.  But soon it became a persistent irritant which continued all the way back to the car.  It seems that the combination of the 29 degree day, the seam of the short leg and sweaty, slightly rubbing thighs produced a nasty chafing effect which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. OUCH!

The moral of the story is:

a. Work hard to create thighs that don’t touch in the middle

b. Wear longer shorts until said gap exists

c. Reconsider long walks in 30 degree weather, swimming is cooling and no chafing!

On the plus side, I burnt 597 calories as well as my thighs, not a bad effort I’m thinking!

  1. That’s what tights are for!! Also, I love Narrabeen, very scenic 🙂 I used to have family that lived there right near the beach.

    • that’s what “thigh slydz” are for…..will wear longer shorts tomorrow. i love walking around the lake, it’s just so peaceful 🙂
