Is that rubber burning I smell?

Well, I did it.  I completed my Nike + goal to complete a distance of 80 kms in two weeks.  Better than that, I finished it with two days to spare.  I am realising how important goal setting and targets are in getting to where you want to be. I have set out on weight loss journeys before with a vague plan of where it I want to get to.  In my Weight Watchers days, the weekly weigh in helped to keep the focus and kept me accountable. I did do well on Weight Watchers and I think it is a good, sensible and effective program.  But never before starting 12WBT did anyone get down to the nitty gritty of what I wanted to accomplish, make me challenge my own excuses and cut through the bull that I was selling myself and those around me. I also think that the fact that each round goes for 12 weeks gives me a time frame to work with and this creates a sense of urgency to get the job done now rather than drifting on and on in the same vein forever. I find I operate much more effectively when I have a deadline to work with, a target in the distance that I can see approaching. I can be inclined to allow things to float along forever if  there is no incentive to finish them off.

As far as Nike goes, I love that I can see what I have done and track my progress on the computer screen.  I enjoy that sense of competition, even if it is just me I am competing against.  It encourages me to push further each time, to leave that old me panting back in the dust as I march my way into my new future.  My new goal is 90 kms in two weeks….I am thinking I might try to smash it in 10 days, watch this space (and Roadrunner, MEEP MEEP!).

  1. Impressive work – well done! I’m so hearing you about the goal setting, it makes such a difference in keeping on track. Good luck with the 90kms! 🙂

    • Thanks will give it a good shake. BTW, really loving your blog, great work!
