Living In A State Of Flux

Well, the last couple of weeks have been a bit chaotic to say the least.  My stepfather has started renovating my granny flat, something I have wanted to happen for a few years now.  Basically, my kitchen and bathroom are being swapped to make a better flow and when finished, I will go from having one bedroom to two, so I don’t have to ask overnight guests to sleep on the couch.  It will be great when done, but living in a building site does have it’s drawbacks.  I currently don’t have a functional kitchen (except for about 6 inches of bench space, a toaster, a jug and a microwave) or bathroom (except for my brand new toilet) and stuff is just everywhere, tools and wood, and things like my scales and bins and sneakers being constantly shifted.  I even found one of my baking dishes being used to hold screws and stuff the other day….they were shifted pretty quickly.  But I am trying to be patient and go with the flow. And I can’t wait to have my brand new dishwasher up and running 🙂

I haven’t been able to run since last Monday which has been frustrating.  I had a great run Monday and beat my distance and time again, but after arriving home that evening my foot started to hurt underneath the toes and got progressively worse.  By the time I finished work on Tuesday, I was limping (my 23 year old nephew kindly started calling me Igor) and driving home in my manual car, operating the clutch was agony.  I finally went to the doctor on Wednesday afternoon and had an x-ray (nothing broken) and will have an ultrasound this morning to check for a neuroma, which apparently is common when people start to run.  I first had this pain when I started to walk long distances and now it has come back I want to get it sorted so that I can keep my training going.

I finished my teaching gig last Friday, so I am once again a tumbleweed.  The experience of running this autism program was both great and stressful and so whilst I will miss the kids and the work, I don’t mind floating on the wind for a bit.  I do have some work lined up so I am not so worried about that and I am being positive that the work will happen.

So, where to from here?  Hopefully the work will keep happening, the ultrasound shows nothing chronic or at least nothing requiring drastic measures to repair and the building site will resolve quickly into bed, bath and beyond.  Watch this space…..
