The Temple Run Workout And Other Assorted Bits And Pieces

So most of you would have heard of one of the great time wasting games, Temple Run.  For the uninitiated, Temple Run is an endless Indiana Jones ( I think the Indy aspect is what attracted me) style running game where demon monkeys chase you on through a derelict temple.  Basically, you run until you “die”, which I do a lot.  You have to jump over obstacles, slide under low trees and dodge tree roots.  Well, a week or so ago I experienced the real life version (no demon monkeys, thank heavens!)

I set out for my afternoon run.  I finished the 5 minute walking warm up and started my run.  I was feeling really good, completely comfortable, no struggle at all.  In fact I was pretty chuffed with myself.  Then it happened.  I was on a bush trail, my usual route but being a bush trail it is narrow in places and there are uneven spots and tree roots on the path.  Suddenly, my ankle turned on an uneven bit of ground and in trying to regain my footing I tripped over a tree root and face planted.  I got up and examined the damage – a skinned knee, hip and elbow and a mildly twisted ankle.  I now feel bad for all those times I have slammed my Temple runner into trees.

Well,  that was me for the day.  I stopped at the tap to wash up the bleeding bits and limped back to the car.  What did amaze me when I looked down at myself was that just after I limped out of the bush, I encountered a woman walking her dog.  I was covered in dirt with a bleeding knee and limping, but she did not even ask if I was OK.  No biggy I guess, but I’m just saying that if the situation was reversed, I would have asked.  Just polite.

Anyway, no huge damage, the knee wasn’t pretty for a week, and the ankle was a little sore for a day or two.  I was very proud of myself because the next day, ankle strapped up and all I went and completed an 8km walk.  In the past, the ankle and the knee would have been the excuse I was looking for to say that I didn’t have to exercise for the next couple of days..I guess this princess has finally toughened up 🙂

In my last post, I talked about my yoga intensive that I was doing that week.  The rest of the week was wonderful and just the kick start that I needed to move forward.  I have now signed up for an eight week yoga course that runs one morning before each week before work, it means that I need to be mega organised with getting my breakfast, lunch and work clothes ready the night before, but it is very doable. I have completed two weeks of the class so far and I feel great.

I have also signed up for Round 4 of 12WBT, so I am in the midst of pre-season tasks and challenges.

Coming up, I have the 7 Bridges Walk this weekend.  This is a 27km walk that crosses 7 major Sydney Bridges. I did this last year and it was a great challenge.  With Round 3 finishing at the end of next week, it will serve as my major milestone for this round.

I am attending the 12WBT Group Workout and Finale party on the 9th November.  I am really looking forward to this, especially as it is in my home town, Sydney.  Any fellow bloggers out there who are attending, let me know, it would be great to catch up in person, put a face to the blog post 🙂

On the subject of finale, I had a great surprise the other day.  I bought my dress quite early in the round, and at first was very disappointed to find that I could not zip it up all the way.  I bought a corset just in case it still didn’t fit by party time and it was able to zip.  Then last weekend, I decided to try the dress on again sans corset to see what my progress has been.  I was amazed and delighted to be able to zip it up the whole way without any assistance.  This really surprised me because I really haven’t seen a huge weight drop this round, but apparently Mish is right again and the numbers on the scales aren’t everything.  Centimetres are disappearing, even if the scales remain stubborn.

It is Fun Run season, and on the 16th November I am doing the Electric Run, a night time 5km lit up with neon a music.  It sounds like so much fun.  I will be decked out with enough lights to be mistaken for a human Christmas tree, watch this space for the pics.

Two weeks later, for a change of pace, I will be completing the 7km Mud Run, an event like Tough Mudder where you get down and dirty and crawl over and under all kinds of obstacles.  I am also doing fancy dress for this run, but I will leave it until the run to share my outfit with you.  Then the next day (I just realised that it is in fact the next day!) I will be doing the Variety Club Santa Fun Run.  For this one you run wearing a Santa outfit – I have learned my lesson from last year and will not be wearing the outfit they supply (it didn’t fit properly and was incredibly uncomfortable to run in).  Instead, I have bought a Santa T-shirt and some red shorts and will wear my red Nikes.  I have also signed up for the Color Run in February, I was not very excited with the format of the finale weekend that 12WBT have announced for Round 4 and so I decided the Color Run which is being held on the same weekend will be my finale event for the round.

Phew, that is a lot of news for this post, hopefully you haven’t nodded off after all these many words…anyway to wake you up, here is a Bon Jovi clip (just because Bon Jovi are awesome and I am going to see them live on December 14th), ROCK ON!

  1. I did a Warrior Dash, which is a 5K mud run with obstacles, and it was awesome! You’ll have a great time! Congrats on the cm lost! Muscle weighs more and takes up less space so you’re doing good work!
    Hope the ankle feels better!
